About the Team

Friends of Bus 142 formed as a direct response to the outpouring of concern about the future of the bus after its removal from the Stampede Trail. We are dedicated to that global Into the Wild community, with the blessing & support of many well known figures from the book, film & music projects.

Our team members are:

Carine McCandless

Sister of Chris McCandless and creator of Friends of Bus 142. Website general manager. Book editor, house flipper (no flops yet!) and mom to two amazing daughters. Consultant for the Into the Wild book & film and author of The Wild Truth, an enlightening memoir that tells the rest of the story.

Erik Halfacre

Website content editor, graphic designer & social media director. Born & Raised Alaskan, skilled outdoorsman, dad to two mini-me rambunctious hiking aficionados and lucky husband. Washington State DNR Maintenance & Operations Trail Crew Lead. Hiked to the bus with Carine in 2014 as her friend & experienced trail guide.

Samantha Dickinson

Website designer and creative director. Carine’s steady Friday night Zoom date. Expert pizza maker & wine connoisseur. Dog rescuer. Samantha and Carine share a kinship as childhood friends. Their brothers were cross-country teammates, and both were lost too young.

H.L. Wilson III

Website builder & developer. Musician, beachgoer, cold beer appreciator, busy dad. H.L. and Carine live in the same town and have worked together on several charitable & community non-profit projects over the years.
